Make your instructions easier to follow with a simple structure.
Write better cooking steps
Great steps make the difference between “I saved it” and “I cook it weekly.”
A simple structure that works
- Prep (what to do before cooking)
- Cook (the main sequence)
- Finish (taste, adjust, serve)
Tips for clear steps
- Start each step with a verb: Chop, Mix, Simmer, Bake.
- Put temperatures and times in the step:
“Bake at 180°C for 25 minutes.” - Keep steps short. If it feels long, split it into two.
- Call out optional steps clearly:
“Optional: add chili flakes at the end.”
Example (style)
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
- Whisk wet ingredients in a second bowl.
- Combine, pour into pan, bake 25 minutes.
- Cool 10 minutes before slicing.
